It%u2019s really big, isn%u2019t it?%u201d%u201cIt%u2019s like a huge playground for all of us,%u201d said Carol.%u201cLet%u2019s look at the model of Mars, %u201c said Mrs. Diana. %u201cMars is called the %u2018Red Planet%u2019 because it looks red. It has red soil. Carol asked, %u201cWhy is the soil red?%u201dMrs. Diana answered, %u201cThe soil is red because it has lots of iron in it.%u201dCarol wondered, %u201cIs the white stuff on Mars snow?%u201dMrs. Diana clarified, %u201cNo, it%u2019s not snow. It%u2019s frozen carbon dioxide, called %u2018dry ice.%u2019 Mars does have ice caps, though.%u201dCarol wanted to know, %u201cHow tall is the tallest mountain on Mars?%u201dMrs. Diana smiled and said, %u201cThe tallest mountain on Mars is 13.6 miles tall, which is three times taller than Mount Everest on Earth.%u201dMars has air, but it%u2019s different from Earth%u2019s. It%u2019s very thin and has mostly carbon dioxide.
